Tap & Grow with your Booster Savvy Card

What’s Tap and Grow?

From 8 September to 19 October 2025, every day you Tap & go™ with Booster Savvy (or any eligible Mastercard) on Auckland public transport, Mastercard will fund the planting of one tree through the Priceless Planet Coalition.* Maximum of one donation per card per day.

Just by using your Booster Savvy card on your daily commute you are helping to restore up to 130,000 trees around the world.*

It’s part of a global effort to fight climate change, and now your everyday travel can be part of it.

  • Any NZ-issued contactless Mastercard is eligible*
  • Campaign runs 8 Sept – 19 Oct 2025
  • Only valid on Auckland Transport scheduled services (not tourist ferries)

How do I take part?

 If you already have Booster Savvy, you're sorted. Just take your card or add Savvy to your phone’s digital wallet and use it to tap on and off buses, trains and ferries in Auckland.

 If you’re new to Savvy - great timing. Get started below and you’ll be helping plant trees in no time.

 

 

How to set up Savvy in your digital wallet.

For Apple Pay (iPhone or Apple Watch):

  1. Open the Wallet app
  2. Tap “+” and select “Credit or Debit Card”
  3. Add your Savvy card details manually or with your camera
  4. Follow the prompts to verify

Done — you're ready to Tap & go™

For Google Pay (Android):

  1. Download and open the Google Wallet app
  2. Tap “+ Add a card” and select “Debit or credit card”
  3. Add your Savvy card details
  4. Complete verification

Frequently Asked Questions

What cards are eligible to use?

Mastercard credit, debit (including Booster Savvy), and prepaid cards issued in New Zealand, including personal and commercial cards. Internationally issued cards are excluded.

Does it work with my phone?

Yes - Booster Savvy can be added to Apple Pay and Google Pay, making it easy to Tap & go™ with your phone or watch.

Where can I use it?

Anywhere contactless payments are accepted on Auckland Transport buses, trains and ferries (excluding Waiheke and tourist routes).

Is there a limit to how many trees I can plant?

Yes - Mastercard will count one tree per person, per day, based on daily Tap & go™ transit activity.

What is the Priceless Planet Coalition?

The Priceless Planet Coalition is a global initiative founded by Mastercard to unite a network of partners to restore 100 million trees in places with the greatest potential for positive impacts on climate, communities and biodiversity. Find out more about it here.
